Hunter Henry 2016 Outlook

Hunter Henry 2016 Outlook

ROTOWORLD –

Chargers TE Hunter Henry will start in Week 3.
With Antonio Gates (doubtful, hamstring) sidelined, Henry should have close to an every-down role. He’s been limited to blocking behind Gates, but both Philip Rivers and OC Ken Whisenhunt expect him to be involved in the pass game this week. Henry is a low-floor/high ceiling streamer against the Colts secondary. Sep 23 – 8:21 PM

Analysis –

Always proceed with caution when considering to roll out Rookie TEs. But there are many things that stand out about Henry that are rarely seen from Rookie TEs. In case you were unaware, Hunter Henry was the first TE drafted in the 2016 NFL Draft (2nd Round). He was the best Tight End in College Football with the Arkansas Razorbacks. Pre NFL Draft… Henry was a stud TE who has shown the ability to be a dynamic blocker, a mismatch receiver and a 3rd down machine.
Fast forward to present day… Henry has been the clear cut #2 TE in San Diego though camp, preseason and over the first 2 weeks. His snap count has increased from week 1 to week 2. He is drawing rave reviews from teammates and coaches as a “do it all” player. If you look at coaches film on Henry from the past two weeks, he extremely physical… with no issues manhandling Starting NFL defenders and no issue moving around the field. Rivers has said to the media that “Henry’s targets are coming.” Antonio Gates has been deemed doubtful for week 3. As the 36 year old future HOF TE is battling hamstring issues… and is notorious for dealing with lingering injuries. Hunter Henry will be the Chargers #1 TE in Week 3 and will see close to 100% of the snaps. The Chargers have lost weapons on offense, they are spreading the ball around, and looking for new weapons to emerge.

Advice –

Keep a very close eye on Hunter Henry this week. This is his opportunity to shine with Gates out and the Chargers are likely to test out their new toy. One would say the stars are lining up for Henry to be successful; elite QB with great history of TE use, offense needing receivers, highly drafted and touted as the best TE in the country, 2 weeks into the NFL and Henry already overpowering Starting NFL defenders. IF Hunter Henry dominates in week 3… it’s going to be hard for the Chargers Coaching Staff to take him off the field. This is an offense in flux and looking for stars to lean on. Allen, Woodhead… Gates have account for a ton of offense. So this could be the last week that he’s 95% available in fantasy leagues.
If you’ve got a spot to burn and in need of a TE… Henry is a high risk high reward start for week 3… possibly even this year’s breakout TE.
